The Ruin of Falgr

Autumn - the 3rd through the 19th day in the month of Kali 1371

Welborn, master of Harrowhoff, had run afoul of a cursed scroll that sent him far afield. He found himself in a misty marsh and without any ally. The rest of the heroes used the black orb to scry his location and set off to find him. While in the marsh, Welborn was set upon by twoscore or more strange men surrounded by frogs. He shirked their foul magic and made his escape. He underwent several other trials and eventually reunited with his fellows.

The heroes then went to Verdengard to treat with Brieberus. They sought lore pertaining to the dragon Falgr. The Green Wizard provided them with potions that were to give them some measure of protection against dragonfire. Taran, the Theurgist showed the black orb to Brieberus who recoiled in horror, for this ancient seeing orb was tethered to the evil wizard, Vortigen. Brieberus cautioned them against using such an object.

The group set out for the grim mountains of Balmorgun to seek Falgr and put an end to his terror. They found his steaming lair high on a cliff and drew their plans. The magic users cast spells of flying upon the Fidlthid and the Bishop, Visefrin, and rendered themselves invisible. The hero, sir Ridwulf of Duncrag drank a sparkling draught and was thereby transformed into the form of a white dragon. Ridwulf then positioned himself high on the mountaintop to await the emergence of Falgr.

The bold hobbit, Fidlthid stood below the dragon's lair and called to him, knowing that Falgr's hatred for his Rune Blade was sure to draw him out. The dragon emerged and in his arrogance he spoke, berating the hobbit instead of burning him. Then did the magic users loose their swift missiles and Ridwulf, in the form of the white wyrm fell upon his red foe. The white dragon fumbled in his attempt to bite home and was burned to death by Falgr's flames. Thus the hero Ridwulf was slain, but his sword, Engryn survived the conflagration.

Fidlthid and Visefrin flew forward to meet the wyrm, no doubt certain they too would soon be reduced to ash. The magic users continued to throw what spells they dared and the red wyrm breathed once more, this time at Fidlthid. The hobbit's luck and the elixir of Brieberus kept him from a fiery end. Mace and sword smote into the scales of the dragon, and in the end, Falgr was slain by the hungry Rune Blade. The heroes then plundered the dragon's hoard, making great use of their magical bag of holding. They then returned to Tandis to mourn their fallen friend, who no doubt saved them from the worst of the dragon's fire.

Dragonfire!

Autumn - 25th day of Dani through the 2nd day of Kali 1371

The bold heroes of Harrowhoff delved deep seeking stony reliefs said to depict the place of St. Lorkus' Tomb. They defeated The Court of Chaos led by a horrible warrior known as the Hand Taker.

With the aid of the Hobbit's Horn of Valhalla, the heroes slew a score of Bugbears and rescued a few one-handed wretches. These men, you see, were erstwhile destined to fight for the pleasure of their captors.

Having found the riches and lore they sought, the adventurers made their way eventually above.

The heroes looked past the fields and farms of Tandis and toward its handsome village. There the dragon Falgr came like a storm of fire and burned many houses. The beast flew high on the wing and then burned the battlements of the castle itself, perched on its hill. Twoscore in Fillip's domain met their fiery end that day.

The dragon was harried by magic arrows loosed from Ridwulf's mighty bow. It was singed by the lightning bolt of Heironymous, sent forth as from some dread heathen god.

In sorrow, the Hobbit cast his eyes over what his ambition had wrought. He held up the Rune Blade and called the dragon to face him, but the red devil only continued its flight north.

The Holy Visefrin conjured water from the heavens to quench many of the fires, and the heroes began to lend what aid they could.

Oath of the Ice Witch

Late Summer, the 15th - 18th day in the month of Dani 1371

The freeholders of Harrowhoff celebrated the birth of Sabira's child, a healthy girl with dark hair. Proud gifts were laid before the babe and she was baptized by Bishop Visefrin in the old fane. The child was given the name Dani in honor of the saint whose name graces the month of her birth.

Lord Fillip, having heard of their heroic deeds in the east, offered knighthoods to Fidlthid and Ridwulf of Duncrag.

Anon the heroes of Harrowhoff went down into the sinking cave to seek the goblin treasure. There they met the water nymph, Cattica who demanded the heroes perform a task for her. So the heroes went beneath the watery realm, imbued with Cattica's enchantment of water breathing. There they found the treasure of Juno, another of the dragon's wives. They had been charged with stealing Juno's great diamond for Cattica. So they defeated a pair of terrible fish, claimed the diamond, and returned it to Cattica, yet unaware of the many intrigues in the court of the dragon Pelidrod and his wives.

On they went into the goblin pits. Through stealth and sorcery, they captured the goblin king, took his treasure, and made their escape past the fearful goblins.

The heroes presented the captured king to Pelidrod the silver dragon. The dragon decided to give the goblin a trial by the depths, so they threw the corpulent creature of chaos into the water and there he sank to the bottom.

The freeholders of Harrowhoff then quit the caves with their treasure and returned to make merry in their hall.

Later in the night, as Fidlthid retired to his cell, Morcarat appeared to him, beautiful and terrible with eyes of ice. She told the hobbit that she could not claim a child consecrated to the gods. The heroes had defaulted on their agreement with the witch of Rilm! Fidlthid and his band therefore owed to her a most terrible favor lest they face her wrath, a favor that would be laid upon them at a time not of their knowing.

The Waters of Kilgar

Late Summer - 29th day of Marissa - 11th day in the month of Dani 1371

The heroes of Tandis won a great victory in the Dunlands. The Black Talon legion was broken, drowned beneath the Falls of Kilgar, or hunted as they scattered southward. Two heathen lords and their subjects were baptized by Bishop Visefrin. Over a thousand Dunfolk were bathed in the same waters that slew their erstwhile foes.

Visefrin baptizes the heathensKing Oddi of Dunmorg and Egilrik of Duncrag fought beside the heroes as they stormed the dam atop Kilgar and slew scores of orcs and ogres. The leader of the boar men, Hinkar, was there too when the foul sentries of the levee were slain. It was during this bold sortie that Oddi first witnessed the power of the gods of Law wielded by Visefrin

The hero, Ridwulf of Duncrag (now the wielder of Engryn) hacked and hacked at the dam's burning support beam, and barely escaped with his life when the timbers finally gave way.

Oh, how the waters poured over Kilgar Falls drowning orcs in their burrows and sundering their foul machines!

After three days of feasting and baptisms, the heroes returned to Tandis. There Welborn found Sabira in her final days of pregnancy. Sabira told her lord husband of a dream. She dreamed that she would give birth to a girl child with white-blond hair. She thought this strange as Sabira herself was so very dark of hair.

The Horrors of Sesgroth part II: The High Tower

Atop the cliff, beyond the dizzying causeway stands the high tower. The door into the tower is on the south wall facing the cliff. It is not locked or barred. On the west face of the tower is a latrine shaft. The opening of the shaft is 20’ above the ground, from there it would be a sickening and slippery ascent.

The High Tower

1. Latrine Shaft

The foul shaft leads eventually to the garderobe in room 8 on the 3rd level. From here the wooden bench can be pushed aside allowing access into the room. A dung worm lurks near the top. Only small weapons may be used in the shaft

Dung worm: HD 2, AC 8, Mov 9, bite - save vs poison or a wasting disease will set in causing weakness and fever

2. Entry Hall

5 human guards huddle over their meager meals at a long table. They are fearful of the master’s undead minions and of the screams heard often from above. They are kept in line by Draga, a captain who dwells elsewhere in the tower. Each guard carries 2d6 silver pieces

Guards: HD 1, AC 7, Mov 12, swords and crossbows

3. Rear chamber

To the east is the spiral stairwell. These stairs lead all the way up the tower, allowing access to each level in turn. When entering this room roll a wandering monster check. If a monster is indicated roll on the following table

1d6

1-3: 4 guards

4-5: 1d4 ghouls

6: Captain Draga and 2 guards

4. Corridor

When entering this chamber, a scream is heard from further up the stairwell. Roll a wandering monster check.

1d6

1-3: Captain Draga and 2 guards

4-6: 1d4 ghouls

5. Draga’s room.

If not previously encountered, Draga and 2 men will be here pouring over a map. A large lock box contains 2,000 gp and a potion of flying. The map on the table leads to a treasure horde in the wilderness. The door to room 6 is locked (Draga’s key)

The Horrors of Sesgroth part I: The Lower Ruins

Long ago, before the first stone of Tandis was laid, castle Sesgroth stood as a mighty sentinel above the chaotic frontier. It is said that a great evil fell upon the fortress and so began its long decline into ruin. Recently a strange light has been seen pouring from the arrow loops of the high tower on the crags. The dreams of seers are plagued with shadows swirling in the nighted halls of Sesgroth

Lower ruins.

The lower ruins span a narrow gorge leading toward the cliff on which the tower sits. If approaching the ruins at night, red light pours from the windows of the high tower in the distance

1. Entry

The gorge narrows and the walls of the lower ruins span the gap. A ruined gate lies sundered and rusted. The gaping portal allows access into the shadowy passages beyond. A search may yield some gnawed-on bones.

2. Gnoll lair

Three gnolls and their reeking bedding. 200gp and a silver necklace worth 50 gp are hidden among the refuse.

Gnolls: HD 2, AC 5, Mov 9, spiked clubs and slings.

3. Antechamber

The high vaulted ceilings of this room are intact. 2 in 6 chance that a colony of bats will fly from the room extinguishing torches and perhaps alerting gnolls (make immediate wandering monster check)
